As a webmaster I am quiet active on almost all the top webmasters forums here on the web. I spend 2 - 3 hours daily posting on forums. The two major reasons behind it are here.

1. Signature Links

   On, almost all forums signature links are dofollow. So it ads a spice to my SEO and attractive signature links bring me traffic. I am getting around 50 Unique Visitors from signatures every day.

2. Knowledge

   I can make an identity by sharing knowledge and also search for more knowledge from the people who know more than me. It helps to communicate with more people of my field.

You can stay active on the forums of the similar catetegory to whatever you do. Trust me, It helps a lot in your web reputation.

What is Alexa ?

It is a web information company which ranks sites by the numbers of Unique Alexa Toolbar visitors (and some more factors) to a site. The Alexa Toolbar shows you the rankings of a site. It determines the popularity of a website. Currently Yahoo is the site with the maximum number of traffic according to Alexa followed by Google.

Uses of Alexa Toolbar

People are saying the Alexa trend is decreasing and you should not concentrate on the rank but I still think that the Alexa Rank is useful

1. It helps you determine the quality and populatiry of site.
2. Scam sites often have a low or a decreasing Alexa. So you can think before you buy a product using Alexa
3. It is useful for your website, to be accepted by some make money online programs.
4. It helps you to know where you stand in front of your competition. And also shows you the traffic volume of the site.

The sad thing is hardly 5 - 7 % of the users on the internet are using the toolbar. But according to their new algorithms they also collect data from some other sources so that the rankings are more accurate. There was a huge drop in site rankings after this (epically rankings of blogs).
