The cookies are stored on a computer after the person clicks on the affiliate links. But this can be done without clicking too. You can stuff a cookie in your visitors computer without, the person clicking on your affiliate links. That means even if a person visits your site the cookie is stored on to his computer resulting in getting you more commissions.
This is a black hat method but it gets you more sales fore sure. If your caught doing this you will be banned. But at this stage there is no affiliate network able to detect cooking stuffing unless they manually check your sites.

Its completely up to you. Many people in this industry are using it to make more money online.
